     Marc Knowles (b. Ottawa, 1982) is a Montreal based painter.

He completed a bachelor of fine arts at Concordia University in 2008

and a masters of fine arts at NSCAD University in 2016.

Marc Knowles paints a world combining abstraction with fantastic landscapes, creating spaces that are retro-futuristic, psychedelic and personal at the same time. Within this universe, forms similar to fragments of natural and man-made structures—stalagmites, geodes, pyramids and buildings—are depicted in a manner reminiscent of crude computer graphics. These geometric structures appear in almost fluid environments that question the relationship between rigidity and fluidity in contemporary painting.

Marc Knowles peint un monde combinant l’abstraction avec des paysages fantastiques, créant des espaces à la fois rétro-futuristes, psychédéliques et personnels. À l’intérieur de cet univers, des formes semblables à des fragments de structures naturelles et artificielles — stalagmites, géodes, pyramides et édifices — sont dépeintes d’une manière qui rappelle des graphiques informatiques rudimentaires. Ces structures géométriques apparaissent dans des environnements presque fluides qui interrogent la relation entre la rigidité et la fluidité dans la peinture contemporaine.
